Arrian
c. 86–160 CE
Arrian of Nicomedia, a Greek of Bithynia, heard Epictetus at Nicopolis and wrote down his Discourses and Handbook; under Hadrian he became consul and governor of Cappadocia, where he repelled the Alans. His Anabasis of Alexander, in seven books modelled on Xenophon and drawn from the lost accounts of Ptolemy and Aristobulus, is the soberest and most trusted ancient history of Alexander's campaigns.
