Privacy

Plato Scroll is a free library. It keeps no accounts and collects no personal information. This page says what little the site and the apps do with data, and what changes if advertisements are shown.

What stays on your device

Everything you make while reading — bookmarks, notes, highlights, favourites, reading positions, the theme and font size, audiobooks saved for offline listening — is stored in your browser or in the app on your own device. None of it is sent to Plato Scroll or to anyone else. "Back up everything" writes a file you keep; "Restore a backup" reads it. Clearing the site's data in your browser, or uninstalling the app, removes it all.

What the website receives

plato-scroll.com is hosted by Netlify. Like every web server, it sees the address and browser of each request in its ordinary server logs, which are kept briefly by the host and are not used to identify or track readers. The site sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics.

A few things are fetched from other services when you use them, and those services see your address in the same way: the fonts (Google Fonts), the audiobook recordings (GitHub), the full dictionary articles the apps fetch from this site, and the pages of Platonic Path, the Romanist Society, GitHub, X and Ko-fi that the links lead to. Each of those has its own privacy policy.

The apps

The Android, Windows, Linux and iOS editions work offline and collect nothing. They connect to the internet only for what you ask for: to stream or save an audiobook, to open a dictionary article, or, on Android, to check for a newer version. No advertisements are shown in the apps.

Advertising on the website

To help pay for the library, pages of plato-scroll.com may carry advertisements served by Google AdSense. Only the website shows them; the reader's text itself and the apps do not.

Children

The site is for general readers and asks for no information from anyone, of any age.
