Catullus
c. 84–54 BCE
Gaius Valerius Catullus of Verona came to Rome in the last years of the Republic and died at about thirty. His one book of 116 poems — the love and hatred of Lesbia, lampoons on Caesar and his friends, the lament for his brother, wedding-songs, the Attis and the miniature epic on Peleus and Thetis — brought the art of Callimachus and Sappho into Latin.
