Manilius
fl. c. 10–20 CE
Marcus Manilius, a Roman poet of the reigns of Augustus and Tiberius about whom nothing else is known, left the one complete Latin poem of astrology: five books of hexameters on the Stoic cosmos, the signs of the zodiac and their lords, the twelve places, the rising times, and the constellations beyond the zodiac. Scaliger, Bentley and Housman each edited him, and Housman called the Astronomica the hardest Latin poem after Lucretius. Thomas Creech's heroic couplets of 1700 are the only complete English translation in the public domain.
