Hector’s wife — whose farewell at the gate foresees everything.

Already Achilles had killed her father and seven brothers at Thebe; in Hector she has “father and mother and brother and strong husband” at once, and says so at the gate in the plea the poem lets stand unanswered. Widowed, she foresees exactly the slavery that comes; the tragedians follow her into it, concubine of her husband’s killer’s son, her child thrown from the walls she watched from.
