Restoration — the return of each thing to its origin, and of the cosmos to its first condition.

The great return

Apokatastasis means restoration to an original state. In astronomy it is the heavens returning to a former configuration; among the Stoics it is the restoration of the cosmos after the conflagration; for the Platonists it names the soul’s return to its source and the completion of the cycle by which all that proceeds is at last led home. What goes out from the principle is destined to come back to it.
