Certain · the Isthmus
Commanding the Isthmus with a harbor on either sea, Corinth was proverbially rich and pleasure-loving. Here Oedipus was raised believing himself the king’s son — the belief that sent him to Delphi and his fate; here Medea’s vengeance was set; and here Diogenes the Cynic lived in his jar and told Alexander to stand out of his sun. Plutarch’s Lives return to it again and again.
