Concept
διαίρεσις · diairesis
In the late dialogues Plato develops a method paired with collection: first gather many instances under one kind, then divide that kind, branch by branch, “at its natural joints,” until the thing sought is defined. The Sophist and Statesman hunt their quarry this way. Diairesis is dialectic at work, mapping the articulated structure of the Forms.
