City of Artemis’s wonder-temple — and of Heraclitus the obscure.

Certain · excavated, Ionia

Home of the Artemision, largest temple of the Greek world and one of its seven wonders, and of Heraclitus, who deposited his riddling book in it: the logos, the river never stepped in twice, the harmony of opposites, war the father of all. His fragments, in this library, still smolder. Later antiquity knew Ephesus as a center of the mysteries and of magical letters — the “Ephesian writings.”
