Eros

Ἀρως

primordialloveOrphic

The primordial god of love, born at the dawn of the cosmos to draw all things together.

Eros is the god of love and desire — in Hesiod one of the first powers to come into being, after Chaos and Earth, the force that draws all things together and sets generation in motion.

Later told as the winged companion of Aphrodite, he was for the philosophers far more than a mischievous boy: in Plato he becomes the soul’s longing that ascends from earthly beauty toward the Good itself.
