The Flower of the Intellect

ἄνθος τοῦ νοῦ · anthos tou nou

Chaldean OraclesProclusunionthe One

The soul’s highest point, above thought itself, by which it touches the One.

The summit of the soul

The Chaldean Oracles and the later Platonists speak of a “flower of the intellect” — and even a flower of the whole soul — a faculty higher than discursive thought and higher than intellect itself, by which the soul makes contact with the One. It is the organ of union: not a knowing that grasps an object, but a unifying touch in which the soul becomes one with the One.
