Deity
Egyptian · the Earth
Geb is the god of the earth — unusually a male earth-deity, where the Greeks made Earth the goddess Gaia. He is shown reclining beneath his sister and wife Nut, the arching sky, the two of them held apart by their father Shu, the air, so that the world might have room to be.
The 'laughter of Geb' was said to be the earthquake, and the green of growing things his vegetation. As father, with Nut, of Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys, he is the earthly ground of the Ennead on which the drama of the gods unfolds.
