Deity
Heru · Horus
Horus is the falcon-headed Egyptian god of the sky and of kingship, son of Osiris and Isis. Raised in secret by his mother, he grew up to challenge his uncle Set, the murderer of his father, and after a long contest before the gods was awarded the throne of Egypt — so that every reigning pharaoh was held to be the living Horus, and his dead predecessor an Osiris.
His eyes were the sun and the moon, and the 'Eye of Horus', wounded by Set and healed by Thoth, became a powerful emblem of restoration and protection. In the contest of Horus and Set the Egyptians, and the Greeks after them, saw the perennial struggle of order against chaos, of the rightful cosmic rule against the forces that would unmake it.
