Euclides’ city — where Socrates’ friends fled after the hemlock.

Certain · the Isthmus

Isthmian neighbor and old rival of Athens — the Megarian decree helped ignite the Peloponnesian War — and home of Euclides, devoted enough to visit Socrates in disguise when Athens barred Megarians on pain of death. After the execution Plato and others withdrew here to Euclides’ house; the Megarian school he founded sharpened the logic that Stoicism inherited. The Theaetetus is framed as Euclides’ own transcript.
