Being, Sameness, Difference, Rest, and Motion — the supreme Forms whose blending the Sophist traces.

The communion of Forms

In the Sophist Plato examines the greatest kinds — Being, Rest, Motion, Sameness, and Difference — and shows how they blend with and exclude one another. The inquiry establishes that the Forms have a structured communion, and that Not-being is really Difference, not sheer nothing. It is Plato’s deepest analysis of how the Forms interweave through dialectic.
