Traditional · palace at Ano Englianos
Telemachus’s first port of call, where old Nestor sacrifices bulls to Poseidon on the shore and talks through the night. Blegen’s excavations from 1939 at Ano Englianos uncovered a great Mycenaean palace — archive of Linear B tablets, throne room, even a terracotta bathtub to match the one in which Nestor’s daughter bathes the young guest. Three ancient towns claimed the name; the palace settled the argument for most.
