Hathor

Egyptian · Lady of Love & Joy

Egyptian

Goddess of love, beauty, music, and joy — the Egyptian Aphrodite, with a lioness's fury within.

Hathor is the great goddess of love, beauty, joy, music, dance, and motherhood — one of the most beloved deities of Egypt. Shown as a cow, or as a woman crowned with horns and the sun-disk, she is the divine nurse who suckles the king, the 'Lady of Drunkenness' honoured with music and wine, and the welcomer of the dead into the West.

Recognizing in her their own goddess of love and beauty, the Greeks identified Hathor with Aphrodite. Yet she had a terrible side: in the myth of the Eye of Ra, a wrathful Hathor becomes the destroying lioness Sekhmet, pacified only by trickery — sweetness and fury in one goddess.
