The reasons in things

Beyond the single Logos, the Platonists speak of logoi in the plural: the formative reasons, the rational seeds by which Intellect and the World Soul shape matter, the inner principles that make each thing grow into its kind. They answer to the Stoic seminal reasons, but for Plotinus they descend from the Forms above — the way the intelligible is present and at work within nature.
