NeoplatonismProclusstructuretriad

Threeness as a structural law of reality, from the divine triads down to every order.

The rule of three

Later Platonism finds triadic structure everywhere: each order unfolds through a triad, and the moments of procession and return — abiding, going forth, reverting — are themselves a triad. Above all, the intelligible world is articulated as Being, Life, and Intellect. Proclus raised this triadic analysis into a precise science of the divine orders.
